Customer Review Honda NT-700v

Honda NT-700So, after one month and a little over 1000 miles, I have got to say I am REALLY enjoying this bike.  First, some background -- I have been riding for 40 years. I've
ridden street bikes from 50 cc to 1300 cc, from small enough to pick up, to as big as a pickup (well, almost).  I've ridden two-strokes and four-strokes, I've ridden
Milwaukee iron and rice-burners.  I currently own a beautiful, classic Harley -- a 1978 FLH (Electra-Glide).

About three months ago, I decided my "daily driver" vehicle (a Ford F-250 Superduty, Harley Davidson Special Edition, that was costing me ~$500 month for fuel) was just not cutting it as a commuter vehicle.  So, what do to?  Hmmm, I'll ride my Harley to work!  Bad idea -- I leave for work between 5:00 am and 6:00 am, weekdays.  The pipes on this bike are VERY loud, and it takes AT LEAST 10 minutes to warm it up in the morning (even when it's not cold outside).  My neighbors would have burned my house down, had I tried that.  Besides, as pretty and as classic as the Harley is, it is just not the most comfortable or the most dependable machine on the road -- no shock to anybody, there. So, time for a change.  I did my research, and the Honda NT-700v was JUST what I needed.  It has plenty of power at 680 cc, 65 hp, and with a reported 50 mpg average, and built-in hard bags -- it appeared to be the perfect "commuter scooter".

So, off I went to find my own.  I ended up at Maxim Honda in Allen, and could not have landed in a better place.  They had exactly what I was looking for, and they made me "a deal I could not refuse".  I rolled out of the shop on March 19 and went for a shakedown cruise.  Once around the parking lot to get a feel for the controls, and off I went.

I headed up Central Expwy (75), and onto 121 south -- a long, smoothly curving exit.  I entered the curve at about 45 mph, and immediately felt that this was waaaaay too slow for this bike.  So, 50 -- 55 - 60 -- 65 -- 70 mph and a good hard lean -- MUCH better. It was a very solid, smooth, comfortable, confident "swoop" through the turn.  I rode around town, on highways, tollroads, interstates, and city streets for the next few hours.  Very pleasant ride.  The position is comfortable, the windshield is awesome.  The bike looks, feels, handles extremely well.  Since then, I have commuted to work in 35 degree drizzle, 90 degree sun, and blistering wind.  I'm averaging 250 miles per week, with the commute and around-town hops.  The NT-700v has performed flawlessly in every condition.  And hey, it starts when I want it to, it gets me there-and-back, it's comfortable, quiet, clean, it doesn't ooze 50 wt. motor oil -- all of these things are not what I've been used to in the recent past!

My favorite features:

  • The adjustable windshield:  down low in town, when it's warm, and up high on the highways and/or when it's cold/windy
  • The built-in hard bags: plenty of storage, and tucked up nicely against the frame. I like the interlock system for the lids, too!
  • The electronic mpg meter:  it makes me smile to look down at it and see that I'm averaging 56 mpg total -- city and highway driving (wheeeeeeeeeeeee!).
  • Just the overall appearance, design, engineering, layout, creature features, etc.  This is a very well appointed bike.  It's no wonder the Europeans have been grabbing them up as fast as they can.  It's about time we Americans got a crack at it.  I predict it will be quite popular, as the "price at the pump" continues its upward spiral.

I added the "trunk box" and put the Admore Lighting light kit in it.  The box is great, as it will hold a pair of full-face helmet without a problem.  And the light kit makes me light-up like a marquis, on the road -- both are great additions.

In short, I couldn't be happier with my decision.  The crew at Maxim have been very helpful. I couldn't ask for more from a shop -- great bike, great deal, great service/support!

Thanks guys!
J. Hogan

"I can't say enough about the customer service and friendly atmosphere that exists at Maxim Honda. When I decided on purchasing another Gold Wing, I searched throughout NE Texas. Maxim Honda was the only dealer that went out of their way to clearly let me know they wanted to work with me and not only find a bike that I could afford, but also a bike that I really wanted. Together we found a way to Get-R-Done. Sales, Service, Parts, Management.... They are all A+. "
